Ghanaian rapper Obibini has taken a swipe at the music industry, describing it as “fake” and unfair to artistes like himself.
In an interview on Daybreak Hitz on Thursday October 2 with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, the rapper expressed frustration over what he termed the insincerity of key players in the industry, which he believes has stifled rap and sidelined genuine talents.
“The industry is fake, and I don’t know what they expect from an artiste before giving them their due,” he lamented.
Obibini said it was insulting that despite receiving nominations at major award schemes, he has never won. He recalled being nominated twice in the Best Rap Performance category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards but losing on both occasions.
“I have had two nominations but I just feel like it is a way they just want to tap me on the back and go like ‘we see you’.”
“But I mean it’s quite an insult for someone like me to be around now and then no award has been awarded to me. Because this is Obibini we are talking about. I am the Shakespeare of this thing,” he stressed.
The former Zylofon Music signee, known for hit tracks such as The Statement, Let Me Know, Ahye Me featuring KiDi, The Dream, Balenciagas, Get A Life and Yes Dada, recently released a new single titled Have You Ever.
