Ghanaian music star Black Sherif has taken another bold step toward international acclaim, as his song “So It Goes” featuring Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML has been submitted for consideration at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in the Best African Music Performance category.

The track lifted from Black Sherif’s critically praised sophomore album Iron Boy has become a standout on the project  blending introspective storytelling with a cross-continental collaboration that showcases the emotional and sonic depth of contemporary African music.

Released earlier this year, Iron Boy builds on the momentum of Sherif’s 2022 debut ‘The Villain I Never Was’ offering a more mature, refined sound rooted in the artiste’s signature fusion of highlife and Afrobeats. “So It Goes” is a melancholic yet hopeful reflection on fate and loss, with Fireboy DML delivering a soulful hook that complements Sherif’s gripping lyrical delivery.

The Best African Music Performance category was introduced by the Recording Academy at the 66th Grammy Awards to recognize excellence in African music across all genres. With this submission, Black Sherif joins a growing list of African artists pushing the continent’s music to global audiences.

Although this is not yet an official nomination, the submission alone is a significant achievement. It underscores Black Sherif’s rising influence not only in Ghana but across the international music landscape  and affirms Iron Boy as a landmark album in the new wave of African music.

As the Grammy voting process moves forward, fans and industry observers alike will be watching closely to see whether “So It Goes” secures a nomination when the final list is announced later this year. Until then, the submission marks a proud moment for both Black Sherif and the continued global rise of African artistry.
