‘I joined for visibility, not to win’ – Imisi reflects on surprising BBNaija victory

Big Brother Naija Season 10 winner, Opeyemi Ayanwale, popularly known as Imisi, has shared that her initial reason for joining the popular reality TV show wasn’t to win, but rather to gain visibility for her acting career.

In an exclusive post-show interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Monday, October 7, Imisi revealed that though she entered the house hoping to win, her sisters had convinced her to view the show as a platform to boost her exposure.

“The thing is, I think everybody in the house actually wants to win — that was my own initial plan,” she said. “But my sisters were like, it’s for visibility. Like, if I come to the show — because I’m acting — that would give me more recognition.”

The 23-year-old fashion designer and actress added that her family even predicted she wouldn’t last long in the house.

“They said a maximum of three weeks, maybe by the third eviction I’d be out — and I agreed,” she recalled with a laugh.

Interestingly, Imisi’s time in the house took a very different turn. Despite her modest expectations, she became one of the season’s standout personalities, ultimately walking away as the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 10.

During the conversation, Ebuka also noted that fans had perceived Imisi as being “strategic” in the first few weeks of the show, pointing out the stark difference between her glamorous social media photos and her more relaxed look in the house.

“People saw your pictures on social media — your hair laid, your face beat — and then in the house, you had green eyebrows and red dots in the middle, you weren’t doing your hair. Everyone was like, who is she fooling?” Ebuka teased.

Imisi, however, has been celebrated for her authenticity and humility throughout the show — traits that many fans believe helped her connect deeply with viewers and ultimately secure her win.

Her journey from being told she wouldn’t last three weeks to becoming Nigeria’s newest BBNaija champion proves that sometimes, visibility can come with victory.
