The Director General of the Signals Bureau, Dr. George Atta Boateng, has disclosed that the Bureau is closely monitoring social media platforms to identify and track individuals who deliberately spread misinformation intended to disrupt public order.

He cautioned that offenders would face legal consequences and urged the public to verify information before sharing it online.

Dr. Atta Boateng made the remarks at the inauguration of a new Signals Bureau facility in Koforidua on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, established to strengthen the agency’s capacity to detect and respond swiftly to emerging security threats.

“I must also say that those who hide behind TikTok and Facebook to spread misinformation and disinformation to incite violence or chaos  we will come after you no matter where you are,” he said. “Initially, it used to take us 24 hours; now it is coming down to 12 hours. Our records speak for themselves.”

The new facility is expected to enhance the Bureau’s intelligence-gathering and analysis functions, forming part of broader national efforts to safeguard public safety and maintain stability.

Speaking at the same event, the National Security Coordinator, COP Osman Abdul Razak, announced that over 10,000 CCTV cameras have been installed nationwide to improve surveillance and crime prevention.

The new Signals Bureau facility is part of ongoing efforts to modernise Ghana’s national security infrastructure through advanced technology and real-time data analysis.

“The NSB has roaming cell towers across the country. As we speak, we have 10,000 CCTV cameras nationwide, and we intend to expand this surveillance to deter crime,” he said.

He added that the Eastern Region will play a central role in the next phase of the surveillance network’s expansion. “The data and capabilities generated by this asset will be analysed in this very facility, making Koforidua a key place in our national security architecture,” COP Abdul Razak stated.
