Lawyers for the family of the late Highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have dismissed claims by his first wife, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, who is seeking recognition as his only lawful spouse.

In a letter dated October 1, 2025, issued by Baba Jamal & Associates on behalf of the Fosu Royal Family of Parkoso and Nsuta, the family rejected Serwaa Fosuh’s claims, insisting she “has no right to determine how the Fosu Royal family buries their dead.”

According to the family’s lawyers, Serwaa Fosuh abandoned the musician over 15 years ago when he became seriously ill and later threatened divorce through a letter in 2018, a move the late artist dismissed, stating he had already moved on with his life.

The lawyers added that by Akan customary practice, Serwaa Fosuh’s marriage to the late musician effectively ended when she presented traditional drinks to his family,an act that signified a formal separation.

According to the family’s lawyers, Serwaa Fosuh abandoned the musician over 15 years ago when he became seriously ill and later threatened divorce through a letter in 2018,a move the late artist dismissed, stating he had already moved on with his life.

The lawyers added that by Akan customary practice, Serwaa Fosuh’s marriage to the late musician effectively ended when she presented traditional drinks to his family — an act that signified a formal separation.

“By the traditions of the Akans generally and the Fosu Royal family in particular, the presentation of drinks by a wife to the husband’s family, when accepted, effectively dissolves the marriage between the two,” the letter explained.

The letter further identified Priscilla Ofori, popularly known as Odo Broni, as the legally recognised wife of Daddy Lumba. She reportedly lived with him for over 15 years and had six children with him, a relationship the family described as one of loyalty and support until his passing.

“Odo Broni is a recognised wife of the late Daddy Lumba and same is recognised by the Fosu Royal family,” it stated.

The lawyers also revealed that Daddy Lumba left behind written instructions on how his funeral and estate should be handled. They clarified that all his properties form part of his estate and will be distributed fairly among his children and dependents under the supervision of the family.

Concluding the response, the Fosu family urged all parties to avoid public disputes and litigation that could “bring shame to the dead,” emphasising their readiness for peaceful dialogue.

“The Fosu family is open to all for peaceful discussions, including your client, to ensure a befitting burial for the late Daddy Lumba,” the letter added.
