Super-producer Timbaland has officially been immortalised in his hometown as the City of Virginia Beach unveiled a new street named in his honour — “Timbaland Way.”

The naming ceremony took place on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM local time, just outside the newly renovated Virginia Beach Cultural Arts District. The event drew an excited crowd of fans, family members, and local dignitaries who gathered to celebrate one of the city’s most accomplished musical exports.

Born Timothy Zachery Mosley on March 10, 1972, Timbaland rose to global fame for his innovative production style, crafting era-defining hits for Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Nelly Furtado, and countless others. The city’s mayor, Bobby Dyer, praised him as “a symbol of creative excellence and perseverance who put Virginia Beach on the map musically.”

“This street represents every kid from Virginia Beach who dares to dream big,” Timbaland said in his emotional acceptance speech. “I came from these very streets — now I am one of them.”

Missy Elliott, who was recently honoured with her own street — Missy Elliott Boulevard — in nearby Portsmouth in 2022, also attended the ceremony. She called Timbaland “the architect of a sound that changed hip-hop and R&B forever.”

The two longtime collaborators were seen laughing, hugging, and reminiscing on stage, with Timbaland joking,

“First Missy gets a boulevard, now I got a way — Virginia’s officially the new music capital!”

Following the ribbon-cutting, Timbaland treated fans to an impromptu DJ set, spinning some of his biggest hits including ‘Cry Me a River,’ ‘Promiscuous,’ and ‘The Way I Are.’

A Legacy Cemented in Concrete

The street naming comes amid a resurgence in Timbaland’s public appearances following his recent work on Verzuz, the popular live music battle series he co-created with Swizz Beatz. Sources close to the producer say the city plans to include “Timbaland Way” as part of a future Virginia Beach Music Trail honoring local legends.

With this latest tribute, Timbaland joins a growing list of hip-hop icons whose hometowns have permanently marked their contributions in city history.
