Afua Kyei, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at the Bank of England has been named the UK’s most influential Black person on the Powerlist 2026, an annual ranking that celebrates the achievements and impact of Black Britons across various sectors.
Afua Kyei who is of Ghanaian heritage joined the Bank of England in 2019 and has since played a pivotal role in guiding the institution’s financial strategy and operations.
Her recognition on the Powerlist places her ahead of other leading figures in business, politics, media, and the arts, underscoring her influence within the UK’s financial landscape.
The Powerlist published annually in partnership with the Powerlist Foundation, honours 100 of the most powerful people of African African-Caribbean, and African-American heritage in the UK. Previous honorees include Edward Enninful, Sir Mo Ibrahim, and Lewis Hamilton.
In her role at the Bank of England, Afua Kyei oversees financial management and contributes to key decisions that shape the UK’s economic policies. Her leadership continues to inspire young professionals across the globe, particularly women and Africans excelling in international finance.
