The Matriarch’s Verse, one of Ghana’s most thought-provoking art and poetry event returns this year in a bold new form as The Matriarch’s Verse Experience 25 with the theme “The Gospel According to Adulting.”

Curated by Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey, the Experience is more than just a poetry event it’s an immersive celebration of art, performance, and the shared realities of adulthood.

Produced by Breathing Art Studio the 2025 edition promises to push the boundaries of poetic expression and multidisciplinary storytelling.

Scheduled for 26th November to 7th December 2025, the event will unfold across Ghana and the Diaspora bringing together poets, artists, thinkers, and audiences to reflect on the complex portrait of modern life from work, money, love, and family to identity, grief, and resilience.

The Experience blends Musical performances, art, live poetry, workshops, immersive installations, and civic storytelling transforming art spaces into arenas for dialogue and introspection.

It also provides practical learning platforms for creatives, offering workshops on creative entrepreneurship, project funding, and international collaboration, bridging the gap between art and sustainability.

This year’s theme, “The Gospel According to Adulting,” draws inspiration from Apiorkor’s forthcoming book of the same name. It interprets the everyday struggles and triumphs of adulthood through poetry, music, and conversation  turning lived experience into art, and art into a mirror of society.

By bringing together artists, policymakers, and the general public, The Matriarch’s Verse Experience 25 seeks to foster deeper conversations around critical issues such as mental health, youth livelihoods, gender equity, climate anxiety, and migration.

Anchored in Ghana but resonating across borders from Africa to Europe and the Diaspora the event stands as a creative and cultural bridge that celebrates storytelling, resilience, and the beauty of survival.

The Matriarch verse Experience 25 is sponsored by British Council, BellAfricanam, Aguma Tea, Ghana Tourism Authority, GTDC, Afro Thrillseekers Tours, Lioness Communications, Creative Entrepreneurs Forum, Colour Cast, UNESCO, Creative Arts Agency, North Ridge Cafe, Channel One TV, CitiFM, Ghana Weekend, Dei Center, Ahaspora.
