Odumodublvck criticises Nigeria’s Centralised politics, urges local accountability

Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has shared his views on politics and race, criticising Nigeria’s centralised political system while encouraging Black people in America to rise above victimhood and focus on progress.

In an interview with BET, Odumodublvck questioned Nigerians’ tendency to blame the President for every national problem, ignoring the responsibilities of local and state officials.

“You have a local government, a councillor, a senator  the people directly in charge of you,  but when anything happens, they say ‘ah, Tinubu’,” he said. “You’re a small fish to the president. The guy that is supposed to take care of you is the one opposite you. But that’s what you get when you use that kind of policy to govern a people when everybody’s sovereignty is in the hands of one man.”

The rapper warned that concentrating power in one person makes the system vulnerable to manipulation and corruption. “Even if he’s a good man, they can take away your liberty by threatening him. What if he’s a man who waited 20 years for a child, becomes a governor, and they tell him, ‘If you don’t do this corruption, we’ll harm your daughter’? Even if he wants to help the people, he doesn’t have a choice,” he explained.

Odumodublvck stressed that democracy weakens when sovereignty is placed in a single leader’s hands. “If the sovereignty is in the hand of one man, there’s a problem. I’ve said what I need to say,” he said.

Switching focus to racial issues, the rapper urged Black Americans to move beyond a victim mindset and embrace new opportunities. While acknowledging the painful history of racial injustice, he emphasized the need for forgiveness and forward movement.

“We cannot deny that America is now a better place for Black people. Black people have suffered in America, yes, but it’s time to step away from the victim mentality. We now have Black-owned businesses, a former Black president, people doing well in sports now is the time to fly,” he said.

Odumodublvck also compared the struggles of Black people in America to those in Africa, noting that Africans have faced even harsher realities, often inflicted by their own leaders.
