Nigerian music legend 2Face Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has described his timeless hit “African Queen” as both a blessing and a burden in his decades-long music career.
Speaking on the Entertainment & Lifestyle Show in Nigeria monitored by Ghana Weekend on Monday November 10, the Afrobeats icon said the 2004 classic has shaped his journey in unimaginable ways, bringing him global fame but also sparking years of controversy.
“That song has been a huge blessing and e don turn to problem join for me, you know. But like I said earlier, I’m grateful for everything,” he shared.
Released in 2004, African Queen catapulted 2Face to international stardom, earning him multiple awards and establishing him as one of Africa’s most successful music exports.
However, the song’s success has long been shadowed by dispute, as former bandmate Blackface accused 2Baba of stealing the song , a claim he has repeatedly denied, insisting it was a collaborative effort during their time together in the Plantashun Boiz group.
Despite the lingering controversy, 2Face expressed deep gratitude for the song’s enduring impact, noting that while African Queen remains his most iconic track, he has created several others that fans equally cherish.
“There are so many other songs I have that are brilliant, and many people resonate with them too,” he added.
The legacy of African Queen continues to grow, recently earning recognition from Billboard as the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time.”
