Sarkodie not obligated to help every young artiste — D. Cryme

Ghanaian musician D. Cryme has defended rapper Sarkodie, stating that the award-winning artiste is not obligated to support every up-and-coming musician.

Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM on Tuesday November 26, D. Cryme praised Sarkodie’s consistency and longevity, noting that his success is a result of years of hard work.

“I always commend my brother Sarkodie because he’s been consistent,” he said. “Some artistes fell off along the way, but he stood the test of time and he’s still doing great.”

According to D. Cryme, the pressure placed on Sarkodie to lift every young artiste is unnecessary and unrealistic.

“When you see a brother doing good, it should be a guide for you. No need to hate,” he stated.

He stressed that many upcoming artistes judge from afar without making any effort to reach out. “He’s not entitled to help you. Have you even walked to him?” he asked.

D. Cryme revealed that his own collaboration with Sarkodie happened simply because he took the first step.

“I went to him. I said, ‘Boss, this beat is good; let’s make it happen.’ And he made it happen. If the Feature Isn’t Coming, Move On”

He encouraged young artistes not to fixate on features that may never happen. “When you’re talking to an artist and the feature isn’t coming on, onto the next one,” he advised.

D. Cryme added that artistes often don’t know what happens behind the scenes, so they shouldn’t take rejection personally.
