Maame Tiwaa, longtime backing vocalist for gospel icon Yaw Sarpong, has passed away.
She died early Sunday, December 7, after a short illness.
Tiwaa was the familiar female voice in the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo group and featured on many of the songs that made the group a household name.
Her recent public appearances included a tribute performance at this year’s TGMA and a performance at her son’s wedding.
In her final months, she was also known for supporting Yaw Sarpong during his health challenges.
Her death has sparked widespread tributes from the gospel community.
The family is expected to announce funeral details soon.
