Temi Otedola: ‘I thought getting married was just signing papers’

Nigerian businessman and philanthropist Femi Otedola’s daughter Temi Otedola and singer Mr Eazi have shared details about the pressure and disagreements they faced while planning their weddings, revealing why they decided against having their court wedding in Nigeria.

The couple explained on a podcast that they organised three weddings in three different countries within the space of three months, a process they described as extremely stressful.

With events coming one after another, the planning became overwhelming and demanded more effort than they had expected.

Temi disclosed that their first plan was to have a simple court wedding in Nigeria.

However, they soon realised that privacy would be difficult to achieve, as such an event could easily attract attention and public interest.

This concern made them reconsider their choice.

They then explored the idea of having court officials conduct the civil ceremony privately in their living room.

While Temi found the idea appealing, Mr Eazi was not fully comfortable with it.

This difference in opinion led them to review other options, including having the court wedding in the United Kingdom, but Temi felt it lacked a personal connection for her.

After much thought, the couple agreed on Monaco for their civil wedding, a location Temi said felt more meaningful to them.

She also admitted that she initially believed marriage was simply about making a decision and signing documents, but later discovered that the process involved a lot of paperwork and coordination.

The couple held a private wedding ceremony at Hallgrimskirkja Church in Reykjavik, Iceland.

She said: “Three weddings in three months is insane. If we went to the courthouse in Nigeria, it wouldn’t be as private as we wanted.

“I thought getting married was just deciding and signing papers. I didn’t know there was a mountain of administration.”
