Ghanaian highlife and soul musician, Akwaboah, has opened up about why love remains the central theme in his music, saying it is a natural gift he cannot separate himself from.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with on Wednesday December 17, the singer and songwriter explained that every artiste has a unique message they are naturally drawn to express.
“I believe everybody has their gift,” Akwaboah said. “If you listen to some artistes, their songs are mostly about life. For others, it’s something else. With mine, it’s love.”
According to him, songwriting begins with what naturally comes to mind when an artiste picks up a pen and paper. For Akwaboah, that inspiration has always been love, a theme he believes is impossible to ignore in everyday life.
“What can we do in this world without love?” he asked. “You are doing your job because you love it. If you hate it, I’m not sure you can do it.”
The multiple award-winning musician added that love is the driving force behind everything humans do, describing it as a universal element that connects people across professions, beliefs and cultures.
Akwaboah’s catalogue, which includes several popular love songs, has earned him a reputation as one of Ghana’s leading voices in romantic music. He says that reputation is simply a reflection of who he is and the gift he has been given.
For the singer, love is not just a subject for music but a fundamental part of life itself, one that continues to shape his artistry and message.
