Gospel musician Perez Musik has downplayed concerns about recognition for gospel artistes in Ghana, stressing that the true essence of gospel music goes beyond public applause and industry validation.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Ghana Weekend on Wednesday December 17, he asked “Well, the question is who is recognising us? Who has to recognise us?”
According to Perez Musik, the mission of a gospel artiste is centered on delivering a message rather than chasing visibility or accolades.
He noted that when the message is shared correctly and reaches its intended audience, the reward follows naturally.
“Fortunately or unfortunately for us, our calling has nothing to do with recognition. It’s a matter of the message you’re sent to put out there,” he said.
The gospel singer further emphasised that excessive efforts to gain recognition could distract artistes from their core purpose.
Instead, he urged gospel musicians to focus on their spiritual assignment and remain committed to the message they are called to preach.
“I don’t think it has so much to do with us trying to push ourselves so hard to be recognised. The focus should be the work, on the call, on the message you’ve been given to preach,” Perez Musik added.
