Award-winning gospel artiste Perez Musik has shared his thoughts on collaborating with secular musicians, stressing that his decision is guided by the message and purpose of the song rather than the religious background of the artiste involved.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Ghana Weekend on December 17, Perez Musik noted that the question of working with secular artistes often comes up, but his position has remained consistent over the years.
“Like I always say when this question comes up, it always has to do with context,” he explained. According to him, he is open to collaborations that promote positive values such as peace, unity and the advancement of humanity.
He said he would gladly take part in projects like peace songs for the nation or international songs aimed at promoting global causes, provided the message aligns with his beliefs.
However, the gospel musician was quick to add that he would not feature on any song whose message conflicts with his faith.
“Once the message of the song does not work with my beliefs, it’s not something you’ll find me on,” he stated.
Perez Musik further compared such collaborations to working relationships in corporate institutions, where people of different religious backgrounds work together professionally despite their differences.
“Some of us work in corporate institutions where our bosses are Muslims or not Christians, yet we still find ways to work together,” he said.
He concluded by emphasising that collaboration, like any form of work, should be guided by shared values and professionalism, noting that once the message is right, “it all boils down to work.”
