Nigerian Afrobeats icon Burna Boy has secured a prestigious global endorsement after being named on former United States President Barack Obama’s 2025 list of favourite music.

As part of a tradition he began during his time in the White House, Barack Obama shared his annual roundup of favourite books, movies, and music as the year drew to a close.

Announcing the list on Instagram, the former president wrote: “As 2025 comes to a close, I’m continuing a tradition that I started during my time in the White House: sharing my annual lists of favorite books, movies, and music. I hope you find something new to enjoy and please send any recommendations for me to check out!”

Burna Boy’s inclusion on the highly anticipated list underscores his continued impact on the global music scene and further cements Afrobeats’ growing influence worldwide.

Over the years, the Grammy Award-winning artiste has become one of Africa’s most recognisable cultural exports, consistently pushing African sounds onto international stages.

The song that earned Burna Boy a place on the list is “Tatata,” his collaboration with American rapper Travis Scott, a track that blends Afrobeats energy with global hip-hop appeal and has resonated strongly with international audiences.

This is not the first time African or Afrobeats artistes have appeared on Barack Obama’s annual playlists, but Burna Boy’s presence once again highlights the genre’s relevance and global appeal. For fans and industry observers alike, the recognition serves as another milestone in Burna Boy’s illustrious career and a proud moment for Nigerian and African music as a whole.

The former president’s yearly lists are closely followed around the world and often spark renewed interest in featured artistes, making Burna Boy’s selection both a cultural and commercial boost as Afrobeats continues its global ascent.
