Serwaa Amihere apologises to PRESEC over ‘breeding ground for homosexuals’ comment

Lawyer and media personality Serwaa Amihere has apologised following a public controversy over comments she made about Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon.

She had reportedly described the school as a “breeding ground for homosexuals,” a remark that drew strong condemnation from the school.

PRESEC released a statement on January 17, 2026, saying the comments were false, reckless, and offensive. The school said the remark unfairly maligns its students, damages the school’s reputation, and misrepresents its values.

In response, Amihere publicly expressed regret. She said she apologises to anyone offended by her remarks, especially the PRESEC community, and assured that it would not happen again.

PRESEC reiterated its long-standing mission as a Presbyterian institution guided by Christian values, emphasising academic excellence, discipline, character development, and leadership. The school described the allegation as a gross misrepresentation of its ethos.

The controversy comes amid a wider national debate on LGBTQI issues in Ghana, where same-sex activity remains criminalised and public opinion is largely opposed. Tensions have also been heightened by recent claims about a teacher training manual introducing LGBTQI content in schools, which the Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service have rejected.

PRESEC said such comments expose students to prejudice, ridicule, and emotional harm, while damaging the school’s reputation. The statement concluded that the school will not accept or normalise these kinds of characterisations.
