Ghanaian gospel musician and songwriter Yaw Sarpong has passed away.
This was confirmed by his manager Nana Kobo on Tuesday January 20.
The celebrated music minister widely revered for his immense contribution to gospel music in Ghana was a leading figure in shaping contemporary choral and inspirational gospel sounds.
Over the decades Yaw Sarpong became a household name through his work with Asomafo producing timeless songs that continue to influence generations of gospel musicians and worshippers.
His passing comes on the heels of the recent demise of his longtime backing vocalist Maame Tiwaa, whose death also saddened the gospel music fraternity and faithful who admired her voice and dedication to ministry.
Beyond his musical output Yaw Sarpong was respected for his dedication to ministry discipline, and mentorship within the gospel fraternity.
His compositions, often rich in scripture and traditional Ghanaian rhythms, played a significant role in preserving indigenous gospel music while appealing to a broad audience.
Ghana has lost towering figures whose music and ministry will continue to inspire long after their passing.
