Stop attacking my brand – Shatta Wale warns critics

Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has responded to the apology issued by New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member Awal Mohammed over comments made about his fans.

Awal Mohammed had apologised after referring to some of Shatta Wale’s supporters as “junkies” during a live discussion on Joy News’ morning show on Tuesday, January 20, 2025. He later clarified that he did not intend to insult anyone and that his choice of words was wrong.

In his response, Shatta Wale acknowledged the apology but stressed that the continuous attack on his brand must stop.

“Apology noted. But let this be clearly understood by everyone — the continuous tarnishing of Shatta Wale’s brand MUST stop,” he said.

Shatta Wale emphasised that he has represented Ghana globally, created jobs, inspired millions, and given a voice to the youth and the underrepresented. He said it is unacceptable for media figures, commentators, and influential people to attack his name as if it is a game.

“This is bigger than music. This is about respect, fairness, and national maturity,” he added.

He also warned that his supporters, known as the Shatta Movement, are organised and patient, but not unlimited. He stated that if the system continues to fail the people, they may choose to organise politically, not with noise or hate, but with numbers and truth.

“This is not a threat. This is a reminder of reality,” he said, adding that attacks on a symbol that represents millions will be felt socially, culturally, and democratically.

Shatta Wale urged the public to choose respect, fairness, and progress, saying that the voice of the people will always rise, whether in music, business, or leadership.

The controversy has sparked widespread discussion about respect in public discourse, especially in entertainment and political spaces. Many fans and industry insiders have welcomed Awal Mohammed’s apology, while also calling for more responsible commentary in the media.
