Artiste manager and media mogul Nana Poku Ashis has dismissed long-standing speculations surrounding the relationship between the late gospel musician Maame Tiwaa and the late Yaw Sarpong, stating that the two were not romantically involved but shared an extraordinary friendship.
Speaking in an interview on Hit FM on Tuesday January 21, Ashis explained that the bond between the two gospel icons developed through years of close professional and personal association.
According to him, Maame Tiwaa gradually became an assistant and close confidant to Yaw Sarpong, supporting him in both his music career and daily life.
“They started walking together and they became friends. Tiwaa became like an assistant to Yaw Sarpong in everything they did,” he said.
Ashis noted that Maame Tiwaa was deeply caring and protective of Yaw Sarpong, a gesture that strengthened their bond and led to public misconceptions about their relationship.
“The way the woman would serve him, take care of him… he also kind of fell for that love,” he explained.
However, he stressed that Maame Tiwaa had her own family and children, none of whom were related to Yaw Sarpong.
“Tiwaa had her husband and three children of her own. All of them are not from Yaw Sarpong. They have their own father,” Ashis clarified.
He further revealed that Yaw Sarpong also had five children of his own, reinforcing that the two were never married.
“So, yeah, they are not married,” he stated.
Despite not being in a romantic relationship, Ashis described their connection as rare and deeply rooted in mutual respect, loyalty and care.
“Their friendship was extraordinary. The bond between the two of them, you cannot go in between,” he said.
