The 2026 edition of the Akwaaba Festival has been officially launched, marking another milestone in Ghana’s growing cultural and creative events calendar.

The launch took place today, Thursday, January 30, 2026, at Ceejay Studios led by the curator of the festival Joe Osae.

Now in its 5th edition and marking its 5th anniversary, Akwaaba Festival 2026 is strategically focused on placing youth at the centre of Ghana’s Independence celebrations, using culture, creativity, and entertainment as tools for economic empowerment, cultural preservation, and tourism development.

The festival is scheduled to take place from March 5 to March 7, 2026, at the National Theatre, Accra and will unfold over three days of curated cultural, music, and lifestyle experiences.

Focus and Impact

Akwaaba Festival 2026 is designed to deliver strong economic, cultural, and tourism impact creating opportunities for creatives, SMEs, performers, and vendors while positioning Ghana as a vibrant Independence-season destination for both local and international audiences.

Key Festival Programming

The 2026 programme will feature a series of flagship events, including:

  • The Vibe Fair (Cultural Trade & Lifestyle Market):
A dynamic cultural market showcasing Ghanaian and African-inspired brands across fashion, food, art, beauty, crafts, and lifestyle, providing commercial opportunities for entrepreneurs and creatives.

  • 2-Day National Open Mic Concert:
A platform that brings together emerging and established musicians from across the country, celebrating diverse regional sounds while promoting grassroots talent and youth empowerment.

  • Main Independence Concert (Day 3):
The festival will climax with a major concert on the third day, headlined by Highlife Artiste Abochi delivering high-energy performances in celebration of Ghana’s Independence.

Akwaaba Festival 2026 is supported by key cultural and creative institutions, including the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ceejay Multimedia, Ghana Tourism Authority, National Theatre, MUSIGA, National Commission on Culture, and the Creative Arts Agency.

With strong institutional backing and a clear youth-focused vision, Akwaaba Festival 2026 is set to further cement its place as a leading national cultural platform that blends entertainment, commerce, and nation branding during Ghana’s Independence celebrations.
