The Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) has officially opened its main submissions window, following the successful close of its early submissions phase.

Now in its 11th edition, BSIFF continues to stand as a leading platform for African and diaspora cinema, spotlighting bold, authentic stories from filmmakers across the continent and around the world.

The festival is currently accepting submissions in multiple categories via www.filmfreeway.com/bsiff.

Film Submission Categories include:

– Ghanaian Showcase (Odehyie)
– International Showcase
– Film School / Student Showcase
– Documentary
– Animated Film
– Music Film (Music Video)
– Africa Rising
– Series
– Skits
– AI-Generated Films

Earlier this year, BSIFF announced the appointment of Aba Arthur as its Diaspora Ambassador, a move that underscores the festival’s commitment to strengthening global diaspora engagement and amplifying African stories on the international stage.

The upcoming edition of BSIFF will take place in Kumasi, in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, marking an important moment for the festival as it continues to bring cinema closer to communities while celebrating heritage, culture, and storytelling from the heart of the country.

BSIFF is widely recognised for its strong commitment to filmmaker development, audience engagement, and community-based cinema experiences.

Beyond the annual festival, BSIFF runs year-round programmes that include children’s film initiatives, mental health advocacy for creatives, and international collaborations aimed at expanding access and opportunity for African storytellers.

Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work during the main submissions period for consideration in the upcoming edition of the festival.
