Ghana’s iconic Concert Party tradition is set for a major revival following the inauguration of a Committee on Reviving Theatre Arts by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie on January 30, 2026.

The committee has been tasked with restoring Concert Party to its rightful place across theatres, television, and digital platforms, reaffirming its status as a cornerstone of Ghana’s cultural identity.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to preserve Concert Party as Ghana’s intangible cultural heritage while strategically leveraging it for education, youth engagement, and job creation within the creative economy.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Gomashie emphasised the need to sustain theatre arts as a vibrant, living tradition, deeply rooted in communities yet visible on national and global stages.

She urged the committee to ensure that Concert Party remains relevant to contemporary audiences without losing its historical essence.

Chairperson of the committee, Dr. Akosua Abdallah, speaking on behalf of the members, pledged a renewed commitment to reconnect Concert Party to its community roots, nurture young and emerging talent, and guide the art form’s evolution in line with modern storytelling and performance practices.

The committee brings together a diverse mix of expertise from academia, theatre practice, media, and the wider creative arts industry. Its members include Ms. Akorfa Adjeani, Mr. Robert Nana Kodua, Mr. Ebenezer Osae-Ayeh Jnr., Ms. Agness Panfred, Dr. Joyce Akumaa Dongotey-Padi, Mr. Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, Mr. Henry Herbert Malm, Ms. Naa Dede Awula Tetteh, and Mr. Wakefield Akuako.

With this strategic intervention, stakeholders are optimistic that Concert Party will regain prominence as both a cultural expression and a viable creative industry, inspiring a new generation while honoring the legacy of Ghana’s theatre pioneers.
