The Government of Ghana has officially announced the renaming of the nation’s primary airport.
The Kotoka International Airport will be known as Accra International Airport marking the end of the era for the longstanding Kotoka name.
The move is part of a broader effort by authorities to modernise and rebrand national infrastructure reflecting Ghana’s growing status as a key hub for international travel and trade in West Africa.
The Transport Ministry made this known in a statement issued on Monday February 23.
Officials stated that the renaming aims to make the airport’s identity more directly associated with the capital city Accra, while continuing to provide world-class services to both domestic and international travelers.
The government assured the public that all operations at the newly named Accra International Airport will continue seamlessly, and travelers can expect no disruptions during the transition period.
