‘I’m not ready’ – Piesie Esther on secular features

Award-winning gospel musician Piesie Esther has revealed that she is currently not ready to collaborate with secular artistes, despite having admiration for several non-gospel musicians in Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with George Quaye on JoyPrime TV’s PrimeTime show on Wednesday, February 25, the gospel singer was asked to name any non-gospel Ghanaian artiste she would love to work with.

She, however, declined to mention names, explaining that choosing just a few would be unfair to others she equally admires.

“It would be very difficult for me to select one because I have many of them,” she said. When pushed to mention four or five artistes, she maintained her stance, adding, “Still, I would not like to mention. My manager will tell you that I have more than four that they love me. So when I sit down here and mention only four, it means you’re leaving the rest out.”

When asked whether collaborating with a secular artiste was something she was looking forward to, Piesie Esther responded candidly, saying, “Not really. I’m not just ready.”

Although she acknowledged that there is nothing inherently wrong with gospel musicians working with non-gospel acts, she pointed out that such collaborations are often misunderstood by sections of the Ghanaian public.

“In this Ghana, there are a lot of people who don’t understand those kinds of things,” she explained. “The one that you want to do, there is nothing wrong with it. Doing a song with a secular, a non-gospel act — there is nothing wrong with that.”

She added that the challenge lies in public perception and how people interpret collaborations across musical genres.

“There are some people who have difficulties understanding that there is nothing wrong,” she said, noting that some audiences struggle to differentiate between gospel ministry and musical partnership.

The interview has since generated conversation online, with fans sharing mixed views on gospel–secular collaborations, while others praised Piesie Esther for her honesty and careful approach to her ministry.
