Highlife veteran Sloopy Mike Gyamfi, well known as Mike Kwadwo Gyamfi, has accused singer Kuami Eugene of performing his classic song “Asem Kakra” without permission.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on Wednesday, March 11, the veteran musician disclosed that Kuami Eugene performed a version of the song, which can be found online.
According to him, the singer delivered the rendition well but never contacted him to seek his permission.
“Kuami Eugene took my song. You can find it on YouTube. He sang the song so nicely. The song is titled Asem Kakra. If you Google it with Kuami Eugene’s name, you will see it,” he said.
Gyamfi explained that the younger artiste essentially performed a cover of the song while adding some of his own lyrics.
Despite the lack of prior authorisation, the highlife legend said he holds no resentment toward Kuami Eugene, whom he considers a son.
However, he stressed that it would have been respectful for the singer to inform him before performing the song.
“He is like my son, so if he admires what I did and wants to do something with my song, I have no problem with it. But he should have at least consulted me first,” he added.
Gyamfi also indicated that he has already forgiven Kuami Eugene and would welcome the opportunity to meet him for a conversation in the future.
