Rap legend Okyeame Kwame was visibly overwhelmed with emotion during a live appearance on the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday, April 17, as plans for his 50th birthday celebration were discussed.

In the course of the conversation, Samuel Attah-Mensah, Managing Director of Channel One TV and Citi FM, shared the deeper reasoning behind the station’s decision to honour Okyeame Kwame with a special event dubbed “Ok@50: A Night of 50 Songs & Love.”

Samuel Attah-Mensah explained that the celebration is a deliberate effort to recognise Okyeame Kwame’s immense contributions to Ghana’s music industry, his longevity, and his influence as both an artiste and cultural figure.

He noted that the event is designed not just as a birthday party but as a heartfelt tribute to a man whose work has inspired generations.

The award-winning musician struggled to hold back tears, clearly moved by the recognition and appreciation being expressed.

The raw moment struck a chord with listeners, highlighting the deep emotional weight behind the milestone.

The event is scheduled to take place at the renowned +233 Jazz Bar and Grill on Saturday, April 18, where fans, industry players and loved ones will gather for a night of music, reflection, and celebration.

“Ok@50” promises a rich showcase of his catalogue featuring live performances of some of his most iconic songs alongside tributes that capture his journey and legacy.

Okyeame Kwame’s emotional response on the Citi Breakfast Show serves as a powerful reminder of the impact of genuine recognition, especially for an artiste whose career has spanned decades and continues to shape Ghana’s musical landscape.
