Underground musician Samuel Abhajid Kofi Junior, popularly known as Lalid, has disclosed that he never anticipated the massive success of his hit song ‘Matter.’
Speaking in an interview on TV3 on Tuesday, May 5, the artiste admitted that his focus was initially on promoting a different track.
“Honestly, I had a song I was pushing last year, ‘Wise Man.’ ‘Matter’ was already out, but people were not paying attention to it.”
According to Lalid, the turning point came when he noticed the song gaining traction organically on TikTok, prompting him to shift his attention.
“Along the line, I realised people were using ‘Matter’ on TikTok, so I had to leave ‘Wise Man’ and hop on the trend as well. And it just blew up like that.”
The unexpected viral success of ‘Matter’ has since earned him recognition in the industry, including two nominations at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards for Best New Artiste and Best Hip-Hop Song of the Year.
Despite his rapid rise, Lalid shared that he had no fears about pursuing music as a full-time career.
