Content creator Gisela Amponsah has shared her thoughts on the growing conversation around social media pressure, stating that she does not fully understand why some people feel pressured by the lifestyles of influencers.
In an interview with TV3 on Tuesday, May 5, Gisela acknowledged that while many young people admit to feeling pressured by what they see online, she believes the reaction should rather be one of motivation.
The 26-year-old influencer explained that her own journey into content creation was inspired by a family member who was already in the space.
Instead of feeling intimidated, she said she chose to see the possibilities and benefits of the career path.
“I had a cousin who was into influencing at that time. I saw the benefits she was getting from it… I didn’t feel like she was putting pressure on me. I wanted to do it too.”
Gisela noted that people often compare their progress to others without considering that success paths differ from person to person. According to her, what works for one individual may not necessarily work for another.
“What works for someone will not work for you. Some people do so well in other fields… I found my calling, which is influencing.”
She also emphasised that her content is not created with the intention of making others feel inadequate but rather to document her journey and growth over time.
“I’m not intentionally coming online to pressure anyone. My motive is not to pressure Ghanaians.’”
She further stressed that success is not limited to influencing, urging young people to explore different fields and pursue what they are passionate about.
“There are so many things you can make a living out of and excel at. It shouldn’t be pressure.”
