Musician Wendy Shay has disclosed that some key figures in the music industry doubted her chances of success early in her career.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey on May 4, 2026, she said some industry gatekeepers advised her manager, Bullet, to drop her, insisting she would not make it.
“Big industry gatekeepers told him [Bullet]…I was there. A big person in the industry said it to my face that it’s not going to work for me. He said I wouldn’t hit right in front of me,” she disclosed.
Despite the criticism, Wendy Shay said she remained confident in her abilities and urged her manager to believe in her vision.
“I told Bullet not to listen to him because I believed I would hit,” she said.
She credited Bullet for standing by her, adding, “I’m always grateful to Bullet…he never made me feel less of myself, and he actually saw the bigger picture.”
According to Wendy Shay, after she became successful, the same individual attempted to downplay her achievement.
“When I became a hit… the person called again and said I didn’t hit because of me, but rather Bullet… he wants to downplay my hard work,” she added.
Reflecting on her journey, she noted that her eventual success came in spite of the early doubts expressed about her career.
