Wendy Shay has opened up about experiencing bullying and online trolling during the early stages of her music career.
Speaking in an interview with Kafui Dey on Monday, May 4, she confirmed that the criticism she faced went beyond mere commentary.
“I didn’t feel bullied. I was bullied,” she stated.
According to her, several factors contributed to the backlash, including comparisons to a former artiste and perceptions about her place in the industry.
“The fact that some people felt I wasn’t good enough because they felt like I was trying to fill the shoes of someone they loved dearly,” she explained.
Wendy Shay also noted that her name often became a tool for gaining attention, making her a frequent target of online conversations.
“They knew that whenever you talk about Wendy Shay, it’s going to give you that traction… I was like the easy bait or easy prey,” she said.
Despite the trolling, she chose not to engage with negative comments at the time.
“No… never,” she responded when asked if she reacted to the criticism.
She added that the period reflected a time when online narratives were often driven by attention but suggested that audiences are gradually becoming more discerning about what they consume on social media.
