Nigerian music star Davido has clarified that his recent congratulatory message to Wizkid on his latest album was a sincere gesture, not one made in expectation of a response.
In an interview sighted by GhanaWeekend on Wednesday, May 6, Davido explained that his decision to promote Wizkid’s project came purely from his own goodwill and personal choice.
“I just did, I can’t lie. I just posted it. I can post anything I want on my page,” he said. “He never responded. Why would I hope he would respond when I know he wasn’t going to respond?”
Despite their long-standing and often publicised rivalry, Davido disclosed that he actually has Wizkid’s personal phone number but has never reached out to him directly.
When asked whether the two Afrobeats giants could eventually put their differences aside, Davido admitted he was unsure about what the future holds for their relationship.
“I don’t know, oh, ask Mr Ayo himself,” he added.
The singer also used the moment to reflect on how genuine actions are sometimes misinterpreted, noting that people often attach negative intentions to sincere gestures.
