Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star Davido says taking up a government role would not bring his music career to a halt, insisting he could still perform while in public service.
Speaking during a livestream with Nigerian streamer Davrel, the singer explained that holding office does not necessarily prevent an artiste from remaining active in the industry, although it may reduce the frequency of performances.
“I would still be performing if I ever chose to work for the government. That doesn’t stop anything, in my opinion,” he said.
“It won’t be as much as it was before, of course. Even while president of Haiti, Michel Martelly continued to perform as a musician. He even went on tours while serving as president.”
Despite his comments, Davido clarified that he is no longer interested in pursuing a political career. He noted that after observing several Nigerian celebrities’ transition into politics with limited success, along with current realities, he has reconsidered his earlier ambitions in the field.
