Actor and comedian Richard Asante, popularly known as Kalybos, has expressed deep gratitude to businessman Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong for the immense support he offered during the early stages of his career.
Speaking in a video shared by GhArticles on Thursday, May 6, Kalybos disclosed that Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong played a major role in helping him and his team grow their creative brand when they first started producing comedy skits.
According to him, the businessman reached out to them after noticing their hard work and decided to invest in their craft.
“Well, some of us, the few that know him personally, he’s been a pillar in our success,” Kalybos said.
Recounting how their journey began, the comedian disclosed that Dr Ofori Sarpong supported them with cameras and other production equipment, a gesture he says many people are unaware of.
“If I can recall when I started with my skits and all that, he was one of the first people who called us and said, ‘I know the good work you guys are doing, I want to invest in it.’ He bought us cameras, he bought us equipment, most people don’t know.”
Kalybos further described the businessman as a father figure, mentor and advisor who has quietly impacted the lives of many people within Ghana’s creative industry.
“He’s always been an advisor, he’s always been a father, he’s always been a mentor to us. I, for one, I’m so grateful for his life,” he added.
The actor also praised Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong for his humility, noting that although he has supported many people, he rarely publicises his contributions.
“He’s a man of few words, he does things and keeps it on the low.”
He went on to pray for God’s blessings, good health and long life for the businessman as he celebrated his 60th birthday.
Kalybos also disclosed that Dr Ofori Sarpong was very supportive during his marriage journey, emphasising that there is much more he could say about the businessman’s kindness and generosity.
