The reigning Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Artiste of the Year, Black Sherif, has shared insight into the deep thoughts and life experiences that shape his music and storytelling.

In an interview with TV3 on Monday, May 11, the award-winning artiste reflected on the emotional weight and substance behind his lyrics.

During the interview, Cookie Tee noted how Black Sherif’s music resonates with a wide audience, from young people trying to survive life’s struggles to older women in marketplaces, despite many initially believing his music would mainly appeal to men.

Reacting to the observation, the “Sacrifice” hitmaker said he intentionally ensures his music carries depth and meaning.

“I need the weight to be in the lyrics. I need it, because I’ll translate the weight as the substance, right?”

According to him, he constantly works on enriching himself mentally and emotionally so he can positively impact listeners through his music.

“I fight every day to kind of enrich myself so that I can speak something, speak life into people’s life.”

Black Sherif further disclosed that his curiosity about life and society has existed since childhood, explaining that he has always questioned everything around him.

“I was born with questions about everything. I don’t remember when in my life that I didn’t have questions about every institution that was inside.”

He explained that instead of troubling him, those unanswered questions became part of his identity and artistic journey.

The musician also admitted that success has brought both answers and new uncertainties, but he remains committed to expressing his thoughts, experiences and perspectives through his music.

“All of this success and its harsh sides all bring answers and more questions as well… I’m trying to do all of this and put out all my ideas and my thoughts and my answers out all in this one lifetime.”
