Award-winning rapper Medikal has encouraged creatives to stop overthinking their ideas and take action whenever inspiration strikes.
Speaking during his acceptance speech at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) on Sunday, May 10, after winning Artiste of the Year, the rapper shared how one spontaneous studio session eventually produced a hit song.
“I want to say something. If you are a creative, anytime you wake up, anything that pops in your head, just do it,” he told the audience.
Referencing the famous Nike slogan, Medikal urged young creatives to consistently put themselves out there, insisting they never know who may be watching or what opportunity could emerge from a simple idea.
“Show up to work, show up to the beach, go to the studio, take some bikini pictures, and post them online. You don’t know who’s watching,” he said.
The rapper recounted how boredom led him to the studio one day, where producer A-Town was playing a beat that inspired him to record a song on the spot.
According to him, after sending the song to long-time collaborator Shatta Wale and his team, the record evolved into a major success.
