Actress and media personality Ama K Abebrese has sparked fresh debate online after criticising some celebrity fashion choices from the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) red carpet.
In a post shared on May 10, a day after the awards ceremony, the actress suggested that some celebrities intentionally wear controversial outfits simply to attract attention and trend online.
“I think it’s safe to assume that a lot of people dress terribly on purpose to trend on the red carpet, because what is this?” she wrote.
Her comments come after social media became flooded with reactions to outfits worn at this year’s TGMA ceremony, held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, May 9.
Ahead of the event, organisers announced “A Touch of Glitter” as the official red carpet theme, encouraging guests to embrace glamorous and creative fashion looks.
While some celebrities earned praise for their appearance and interpretation of the theme, others faced heavy criticism online.
Ama K Abebrese’s remarks quickly gained attention across social media platforms, with many users agreeing that some red carpet looks appeared more focused on shock value than style or creativity.
Others, however, defended the celebrities involved, arguing that fashion is subjective and that red carpet appearances are often meant to push boundaries and spark conversation.
The actress’s post has since added to ongoing discussions about celebrity fashion culture in Ghana and the growing pressure on public figures to create viral moments during major entertainment events.
Despite the backlash surrounding some outfits, the TGMA red carpet remained one of the biggest highlights of the awards night, generating conversations that continue well beyond the ceremony itself.
