Founder of RuffTown Records, Bullet, has called on organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) to bring back dancehall artiste Shatta Wale to the awards scheme to make the event more lively and entertaining.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on Wednesday, May 13, Bullet said Shatta Wale’s presence always adds excitement and healthy competition to events.
“I think they should bring back Shatta Wale. If only they are willing to and would listen to me, they should bring him back.”
According to him, although opinions may differ, he believes the dancehall artiste’s involvement in the TGMA would help increase public interest and fan engagement.
“They should bring him back to make it more fun because, after all, he is still a Ghanaian musician, so they should talk things out with him and bring him back,” he stated.
Bullet further explained that Shatta Wale’s fanbase significantly contributes to the excitement surrounding any event he participates in.
“I do not care if anybody disagrees, but I am saying what I also think, and it is not because he is bigger than the others, but because if he is involved in something, his fanbase makes it fun. We all need competition, and I know when SM is involved in something, no doubt it makes it fun,” he added.
Shatta Wale has had a strained relationship with the TGMA scheme over the years, especially following the infamous incident at the 2019 edition of the awards involving fellow dancehall artiste Stonebwoy.
The altercation occurred after Stonebwoy was announced as the winner of the Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
During the celebration on stage, a confrontation broke out between members of both camps, leading to chaos inside the auditorium.
The situation escalated when Stonebwoy pulled a gun on stage, causing panic among patrons and briefly halting the event.
Following the incident, both artistes were arrested and later granted bail.
The incident remains one of the most controversial moments in the history of the TGMA.
