Artiste Kojo Blak has disclosed that prayer and spiritual discipline play a central role in his music-making process, disclosing that he prays before recording any song and even fasts before releasing music.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Monday, May 18, the singer said he steps away from the studio to pray before recording, describing it as a personal spiritual routine that many people around him are unaware of.
“Let me say one thing here. Before I make any song in the studio, I go out. Few of my friends know this. I go out and I pray. Sometimes I even speak in tongues,” he said.
Kojo Blak explained that his faith has strengthened him through challenging moments in his career, citing the recording process of his song ‘Down’ as an example.
According to him, he recorded the song while struggling with vocal issues but believes prayer helped him deliver one of his strongest records.
“I recorded ‘Down’ with my voice gone. My speaking voice was not clear. But I went out, I prayed and I came.
“Down is like one of the best Afro R&B songs I’ve done. So I believe everybody has what’s backing them. For me, it is God. I don’t have any other thing I do.”
The artiste further disclosed that his spiritual practices go beyond prayer, saying he sometimes undertakes periods of fasting before putting out music.
“Even before I release songs, sometimes I fast. Not for one day. I do those spiritual exercises to back what I’m doing,” he added.
