Entertainment pundit and artiste manager Kwesi Ernest says his experience in the music industry has taught him that secular artistes may be more difficult to manage, but they often show greater loyalty than gospel musicians.

Speaking in an interview with Empress Gifty on UCook, Ernest explained that some secular artistes can be challenging to work with because of their lifestyles and attitudes.

According to him, managing some secular musicians comes with difficulties linked to stubbornness and habits such as alcohol consumption, drug use, and frequent clubbing, which can affect work ethics.

“When it comes to work ethics, secular artistes are more difficult to manage, especially if you meet one who is very stubborn, the ones who do drugs, alcohol, and like going to clubs,” he said.

Despite these challenges, Kwesi Ernest said secular artistes often make up for it through their loyalty and willingness to maintain strong personal relationships.

He claimed that compared to gospel artistes, secular musicians are more likely to stand by people who support them and remain connected long after working relationships end.

“But when it comes to loyalty, the ones who will defend you and protect you, the secular artistes will stand by you more than the gospel artistes,” he stated.

To buttress his point, he mentioned singer Becca and artiste King David as examples of musicians who have maintained a close relationship with him over the years.

According to him, Becca still checks up on him and warmly greets him whenever they meet, while King David regularly reaches out whenever he visits the United States.

In contrast, Kwesi Ernest expressed disappointment over his experiences with gospel artistes he has managed, claiming many no longer keep in touch.

He said some have not even reached out with simple greetings on special occasions such as birthdays or Christmas.

Kwesi Ernest added that genuine kindness and loyalty should extend beyond contractual obligations.

“Being a good person is not about the contract. You can’t be a good person just because of a contract,” he added.
