Actor and Deputy CEO of the National Film Authority (NFA), James Gardener, says he does not believe in turning down movie roles, insisting that versatility is one of the most important qualities of an actor.
When asked if there were any particular roles he would turn down as an actor, James Gardener said he is open to taking on different characters as long as the story makes sense.
“Except the story just doesn’t make sense,” he said.
According to him, actors are expected to adapt to different personalities and situations, making flexibility a key part of the profession.
“Whatever role that you give me, I’m supposed to adapt. So I don’t think there’s ever a role that I would say no, I wouldn’t do it,” he stated.
The actor, however, noted that there could be room for discussion around how a character is portrayed.
“We may talk about tweaking the character,” he explained.
James Gardener stressed that being an actor goes beyond comfort zones and requires the ability to embody a wide range of roles.
“But as an actor, you have to be versatile. So I don’t think I would say no,” he added.
His comments reflect a growing belief among actors that adaptability remains essential in an industry where performers are constantly challenged to take on diverse and evolving roles.
