Kumawood actor Papa Kumasi has disclosed that comedian Dr. Likee made a huge personal sacrifice to ensure the success of his comedy show in the United Kingdom over the weekend.
Speaking in a recent interview sighted by GhanaWeekend on Monday, May 25, Papa Kumasi dismissed claims that external sponsors largely financed the successful London event.
According to the actor, Dr. Likee personally funded the show and even sold his car to make it happen.
“Dr. Likee had to sell his own car just to sponsor the show. No one can sit anywhere and say it’s not true; the person should come out and prove that,” he stated.
Papa Kumasi explained that despite the financial challenges surrounding the event, the team felt fulfilled and overwhelmed by the support shown by fans from different parts of the world because several patrons travelled long distances to attend the event, with some supporters journeying all the way from the United States to watch and support the comedian.
The actor also expressed gratitude to industry figures and political personalities who reached out with advice, encouragement, and support before the event.
Among those he acknowledged were Abeiku Santana, Kwame Asare Obeng and Abla Dzifa Gomashie.
According to him, these individuals stood by the team with encouragement and guidance rather than turning their backs on them.
Papa Kumasi stressed that the success of the UK comedy event was driven largely by Dr. Likee’s determination, sacrifice, and the unwavering support of fans and well-wishers.
