My dad was instrumental in my recovery from drug addiction – Daniel Duncan-Williams

Daniel Duncan Williams, son of renowned Ghanaian preacher Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has opened up about his battle with addiction and mental health challenges, revealing that a heartfelt conversation with his father in 2023 marked a major turning point in his recovery journey.

Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV on Friday, May 29, Daniel said he takes full responsibility for the controversies and social media incidents that drew public attention to him in recent years.

According to him, many people were unaware that he had been struggling with substance abuse for a long time, a battle that eventually affected his mental health.

“I take full accountability for all my actions, so everything that happened leading up to the social media outbreaks and all of that, I take full accountability,” he said.

Daniel explained that after years of battling addiction, he reached a point where he could no longer continue living the same way and decided to seek help.

“For a long time, I was having addiction problems, having problems with substances, drugs and things like that. In 2023, I think I finally got sick of it and realised that I had a problem.

“I went to my dad and said, ‘Dad, I know I’ve tried rehab before, but please let me try again. Please support me, let the family support me, let me go to rehab again, and that was my turning point.”

Reflecting on his past, Daniel noted that many of the public incidents that made headlines stemmed from his drug abuse and the mental health challenges that developed as a result.

“All my past experiences, social media outbreaks and stuff like that were really all due to drug abuse, which led to mental illness developing in the brain,” he disclosed.

Today, Daniel says he is focused on recovery, personal growth and using his experiences as a testimony of transformation.
