Musician and comedian Nasboi has voiced concerns over the growing economic hardship and insecurity in Nigeria, urging leaders to focus more on the welfare of citizens.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Friday, June 5, the Nigerian comedian said the challenges facing Nigerians are real and should not be dismissed or downplayed.
“This is not a cock and bull story. It’s not like we’re trying to say what it is not. That’s what’s happening.”
Nasboi urged government officials to go beyond rhetoric and provide solutions to the numerous problems confronting citizens, particularly the rising cases of kidnapping and the soaring cost of living.
“If they prioritise the people, they will speak about the people. It’s not just speaking, it’s about finding ways. People are being kidnapped. What is the situation? What are you doing? Give us hope. Tell us what is being put in place to bring kidnapped people back.”
The entertainer further highlighted how the cost of basic food items has skyrocketed over the years.
“People who used to buy rice for 15 naira are now buying rice for 350 naira. Something as common as eggs that we used to buy for 50 naira, we are buying for as much as 300 naira per egg.”
He also criticised the media’s tendency to amplify celebrity-related stories while paying less attention to issues affecting the everyday lives of Nigerians.
“The reason you don’t have full information about these things, but you know about Chike and divorce, is because those are the types of news that are being amplified,” he added.
