Media personality Kafui Dey has praised award-winning musician Black Sherif for his focus and determination during the early stages of his music career.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime TV on Wednesday, June 10, Kafui Dey recounted a conversation he once had with Black Sherif about how the artiste rose to prominence.
According to him, Black Sherif disclosed that he heavily relied on WhatsApp Status to promote his music before gaining mainstream recognition.
“I asked him, ‘How did you blow up?’ and he said, ‘WhatsApp Status,’” Kafui Dey disclosed.
He explained that the musician consistently shared his songs on the platform and soon realised that his music was reaching audiences beyond his immediate circle.
Kafui Dey recalled Black Sherif telling him that he noticed the impact when people in his hometown of Konongo began complimenting his music despite not being part of his close network.
“He knew the thing was going far when he walked through Konongo and people he didn’t know kept saying, ‘good music.’”
The media personality noted that the experience demonstrated the power of WhatsApp as a promotional tool, describing the Status feature as a personal television station that allows users to directly reach their audience.
Beyond his marketing strategy, Kafui Dey also spoke highly of Black Sherif’s personality, describing him as humble and remarkably mature for his age.
“Blacko is a soft guy but very focused. He sounds older than he is. He sounds like a 40-year-old, and he’s just in his early 20s.”
