Music producer and pastor, David Kojo Kyei, popularly known as Kaywa, has opened up about his contribution to the growth of Ghana’s music production industry, disclosing that he has mentored more than 19 top producers over the years.
Speaking on The Upside Down Show with Frema Adunyame on Channel One TV on Sunday, June 14, Kaywa said many of the country’s successful producers today benefited from his guidance and training.
“When it comes to the music producers I’ve put out there, I’ve put over 19 top music producers out there.”
The award-winning producer went on to mention some notable names he has worked with, including KillBeatz, StreetBeatz and Samsney.
“I taught KillBeatz. I taught StreetBeatz. I taught Samsney and all the guys who are doing well. Eighty per cent of them.”
Kaywa also used the opportunity to stress the importance of gratitude in the creative industry, noting that while some of his former mentees continue to acknowledge his role in their success, others do not.
“People like KillBeatz will always say that, ‘I really appreciate what you did for me.’ People do that a lot, and I respect him for that.”
According to Kaywa, showing appreciation and honouring those who contribute to one’s journey is essential for long-term success, urging younger creatives to cultivate the habit of expressing gratitude.
