Social media blogger Abdul Gafaru Sani, popularly known as Webkid or WebkidAfrika, has been granted bail of GH¢100,000 by the High Court, Accra, after spending more than six weeks in custody over allegations of publishing false and offensive content about dancehall artiste Stonebwoy and his family.
Webkid was arrested on May 7, 2026, following a formal complaint filed by Stonebwoy, whose real name is Livingstone Etse Satekla.
Webkid faces six charges related to the alleged publication of false news and offensive online content.
The number of charges reportedly increased as investigations progressed.
The Tema-based salesman and online commentator was first remanded on May 11 and again on May 26 after prosecutors filed additional charges.
Speaking after the bail ruling, Webkid’s lawyer said his client had been deeply affected by his prolonged detention.
“He is very traumatised because he has lost his clients. He is a businessman, and he has lost most of them. I am praying that his clients listening to us will return to him.”
The lawyer also questioned the basis of the prosecution, arguing that his client had not been treated fairly and suggesting the charges would not have been pursued if similar comments had been made through traditional media.
The case has generated significant public interest, with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale appearing in court on several occasions to show support for Webkid.
Proceedings have also been marked by multiple adjournments as investigations continue.
Court documents identify Stonebwoy as the complainant in the matter, contrary to earlier public suggestions from some members of his camp.
