Ghanaian businessman and entrepreneur Ibrahim Mahama has pledged to fully cover the medical expenses of Abdul-Samed Sulemana, popularly known as Awuche, who is believed to be Ghana’s tallest man.
The intervention follows a public appeal by Awuche for financial assistance after his health deteriorated due to complications from gigantism.
Awuche was referred from the Baptist Medical Centre in Nalerigu to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where doctors reportedly recommended the amputation of his left leg after a severe infection caused part of it to rot.
According to Ibrahim Mahama’s aide, Rafik Mahama, he had contacted Awuche and his family to assure them of the businessman’s full support.
“On behalf of Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, I have reached out to Awuche and his family to assure them of our full support during this challenging time. Mr. Ibrahim Mahama has pledged to fully cover Awuche’s hospital bills, including the costs of his medical treatment and surgery.”
Rafik Mahama further disclosed that special arrangements were made for Awuche to travel to the Tamale Teaching Hospital on Tuesday, July 8, where he safely arrived and began the necessary medical procedures.
He also appealed to the public to keep Awuche in their prayers as he undergoes treatment.
“At this stage, we kindly ask the public to continue keeping him in their prayers as he embarks on his treatment and recovery journey. We wish Awuche a successful procedure, a smooth recovery, and a full return to good health.”
The 33-year-old Awuche, a native of Gambaga, is believed to be Ghana’s tallest man, standing at approximately 7 feet 8 inches.
He has reportedly battled gigantism for several years but has been unable to seek the required medical care due to financial constraints, prompting his appeal for public support.
