Actress Auntie Bee has disclosed that despite spending years in the film industry, she has not acquired any property from her acting career.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on Tuesday, July 14, the Efiewura actress said acting alone was not financially rewarding enough to secure her long-term future, forcing her to rely on event hosting (MCing) as an additional source of income.
According to her, MCing became a side job that helped sustain her financially over the years.
“I have no properties made from acting or being an actress. I have always loved MCing, so it is a job I have been doing on the side, and it has been helping me financially.”
Auntie Bea lamented that the event-hosting industry has become increasingly competitive, making it difficult to secure regular engagements.
“Unfortunately, everyone is into MCing now, so I don’t get gigs anymore.”
The actress disclosed that she initially ventured into MCing with the support of a male friend from Labadi, but they have since lost contact after she learned he had fallen ill.
“I started with a male friend from Labadi, but I don’t even hear from him again because I learned he is not well.”
Despite the challenges, Auntie Bee believes she still has what it takes to excel as an MC. She recounted recently moderating a traditional event where attendees commended her professionalism and ability to coordinate the programme successfully.
“Just last week, I was invited to moderate a traditional event, and they were amazed at how I was able to coordinate everything.
She added that breaking through in the industry now depends largely on referrals and personal recommendations.
“The field is saturated, and without recommendations, no one will call you for events. So, unfortunately for me, I have no property that I made from acting.”
